K-State Suffers Heartbreaker at UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Kansas State Athletics) – A Kyler Goins goal early in the second half brought K-State into a tie on Sunday afternoon. However, UTSA tallied the game-winner in the 88th minute to defend Park West Athletic Complex with a 2-1 win. The Wildcats’ record falls to 1-2-1, while the Roadrunners improve to 3-0-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
– UTSA jumped in front in the 7th minute. On its second corner kick of the afternoon, Kiran Singh curled her service into the back right corner of the net to give the Roadrunners the 1-0 lead. It was the first time K-State has trailed in a first half this season.
– Trailing 1-0 after the half, K-State squared the match in the 58th minute. Caylee Thornhill gathered possession at midfield. After beating her initial defender, Thornhill found Kyler Goins by herself on the left side of the field. With two touches, Goins fired a laser beam into the left corner from 16 yards out in the middle of the field.
– This was Goins’ second goal of the season and second of the road trip through Texas.
– The goal from Goins was the first allowed by UTSA this season in 3.5 matches.
– In the 88th minute, K-State was unable to clear a pair of desperate UTSA crosses. After the ball pinballed to 25 yards, Sasjah Dade of UTSA unleashed her shot from 20 yards and found twine for the winner.

– UTSA held a 15-8 advantage in total shots and a 5-1 edge in shots on goal.
– K-State tallied a 4-2 lead in corner kicks.

“We scored a few goals this weekend. It’s hard to score goals at this level. We had good moments of play in both games. The second half of today, we looked really good, but it wasn’t enough. Sunday games are a challenge. We have to figure out how to take the lessons learned from traveling on the road and playing matches and figure out ways to get a positive result on the road.”

“It’s a good start for her. She stayed consistent this weekend. If we can continue to get her to stay consistent, I think it’ll help us in the long run.
