Bernat Completes First Round of NCAA Championship

CARLSBAD, Calif. (K-State Athletics) – Kansas State junior women’s golfer Carla Bernat carded a 4-over par 76 on Friday during the first round of the 2024 NCAA Championship held at the par-72, 6,297-yard La Costa Champions Course at Omni La Costa Resort.

Bernat will begin Saturday’s second round tied for 99th place as she carded one birdie during the first round, which came at the par-4 7th hole.

“Today was a tough day for Carla,” head coach Stew Burke said. “She didn’t really get the breaks that she deserved on a couple occasions. However, she fought hard, got some up-and-downs and kept herself in it for the next few rounds. She needs to continue to stick to the plan and maintain good self-belief.”

A native of Castellon, Spain, Bernat is just the second K-State women’s golfer ever to compete in the national championship as she is joining Christine Boucher, who participated in the 2003.

Florida State’s Lottie Woad, who ranks fourth in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, leads on the individual leaderboard with a first-round score of 7-under par 65. Clemson is atop the team leaderboard with a first-round score of 8-under par 280.

After being part of the afternoon wave during round one, Bernat will compete in the morning wave on Saturday with an 8:52 a.m. (PT) start off the 10th tee. Live results of the 2024 NCAA Championship can be followed by clicking here.
