K-State’s Schultz Qualifies for 122nd US Amateur
MANHATTAN, Kan. (Kansas State Athletics) – For the second straight year, Kansas State sophomore men’s golfer Cooper Schultz will compete in the prestigious US Amateur.
The US Amateur, which is entering its 122nd year of hosting the nation’s very best young golfers, will be held August 15-21, at the par 71, 7,487-yard Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey, while the stroke play co-host venue will be the par-70, 7,256-yard Arcola Country Club.
Schultz carded an 8-under par 136 in July’s qualifying event that was held at Overland Park’s Milburn Country Club, a performance that earned him an alternate position which he was recently elevated from to claim his spot in the 312-man field.
The event will consist of two stroke play rounds that will determine spots for a 64-man match play tournament to name the champion.
Schultz, a product of Andover, Kansas, makes his return with the confidence gained from his play at last years US Amateur where he fought his way into the match play tournament by firing two under-par rounds during stroke play. Schultz became the first Wildcat to advance to match play since at least 2000.
This year’s two stroke play rounds will be held on Monday and Tuesday, with match play beginning on Wednesday and concluding with the 36-hole championship match on Sunday, August 15.
Schultz will tee off in the first round on Monday at 2:05 p.m. (CT).
Coverage of match play will be shown on the Golf Channel and Peacock, while live scoring can be tracked at usga.org.
