K-State Ends Road Trip Thursday, Returns to Buser on Sunday
MANHATTAN, Kansas (Kansas State Athletics) – K-State (1-2-1) will conclude a three-match road trip on Thursday and host a Big Ten foe on Sunday afternoon at Buser Family Park. The Wildcats visit Weber State (0-3-0) on Thursday at 3 p.m. (CT), and hosts Purdue (2-2-0) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
• Both matches will be streamed online, as Thursday’s match will be available on ESPN+ while Sunday’s match will be available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

Last Time Out
• K-State started a three-match road trip last weekend by splitting a two-match trip through the state of Texas.
• The Wildcats secured their first win of the season with a 1-0 win at UTRGV on Thursday, August 25.
• Senior Kyler Goins tallied her first goal of the season and the first game-winning goal of her career with a 51st minute strike that bounced off the crossbar and straight down into the net.
• Sophomore Adah Anderson was credited with an assist on the Goins goal, running her point streak to three straight matches and dishing her second assist of the season.
• Junior goalkeeper Alaina Werremeyer collected her first shutout of the season and the sixth of her career.
• Defensively, K-State held UTRGV to three total shots, which were the fewest shots allowed by the Wildcats since allowing two against Missouri State on Sept. 14, 2018.
• At UTSA on Sunday, August 28, Goins registered her second goal of the season with a 58th minute tally but UTSA notched a game-winning goal in the 88th minute to drop the Wildcats.
• K-State has scored a goal in the first four matches of a season for the first time in program history.
Cats on Cusp of Century Mark
• K-State is nearing a program goals scored milestone in its seventh season of action.
• With one goal, the Wildcats will reach the 100-goal mark in program history.
• K-State set the single-season record for goals with 20 in the 2021 season.
• In its brief history, the Wildcats have seen 31 players register at least one career goal.
Better Late than Never for K-State
• In its seven seasons of action, K-State has scored 61 of its 99 total goals in the second half or later of matches.
• After scoring in the 6th minute of the season-opener, K-State has scored its last three goals in the second half.
• During the 2021 season, K-State scored nine of its 20 goals in the second half or later including a 99th minute (98:21) game-winner by Caylee Thornhill at Kansas on Sept. 30, which was just the second overtime game-winning goal in school history and the first in Big 12 action.
• The Wildcats have scored nine goals in the 85th minute or later in the history of the program. Of those nine goals, three were game-winning goals (Brookelynn Entz, Colorado State, Sept. 17, 2017; Anderson, vs. North Alabama, Aug. 29, 2021 and Thornhill, at Kansas, Sept. 30, 2021) and two were game-tying goals (Aliyah El-Naggar, at Missouri, March 28, 2021; Laramie Hall, at Creighton, Sept. 2, 2016).
K-State Posts Blank Scoresheets
• K-State recorded its first shutout of the 2022 season with a stellar team defensive effort.
• The Wildcats kept UTRGV off the scoreboard and surrendered just three total shots, the second fewest shots allowed in a match in program history.
• In the 2021 season, the Wildcats tied the school record for shutouts in a season with six, which included a school-record shutout streak of 317:55. The Wildcats tied the school record for consecutive shutouts with three.
• In its seven seasons of action, the Wildcats have registered 31 shutouts. Kansas State owns an all-time record of 23-0-8 in games allowing zero goals.
• Of the 31 shutouts in program history, two goalkeepers own 19 of them. Miranda Larkin set the school record for career shutouts with 10, while former goalkeeper Emma Malsy has the other nine.
• The active goalkeepers on the K-State roster – Rachel Harris, and Alaina Werremeyer – have tallied seven shutouts in their K-State careers. Werremeyer ranks third in school history for career shutouts with six, while Harris owns one.
Purple Pitch
• K-State has played 48 home matches in its 106-game history, but have felt more comfortable at Buser Family Park.
• The Wildcats are 15-29-4 at home, including a school record four-match home field winning streak and a five-match unbeaten streak which spanned the end of the 2016 home schedule and the start of the 2017 home slate.
• In the 48 home matches, the Wildcats have been outscored by its opponents, 66-49 (-17).
• Overall in matches played within the Sunflower State, Kansas State owns a record of 17-30-5.
Goins With Goals
• Senior Kyler Goins paced the Wildcat attack during the two-match road trip through the state of Texas on August 25-28.
• During the road trip, Goins scored both of K-State’s goals. Against UTRGV, she tallied her first goal of the season and the first game-winning goal of her career with a 51st minute strike that bounced off the crossbar and straight down into the net.
• At UTSA, Goins scored her second of the season and moved into the team lead for goals scored this season.
• This is the second time in her career in which she has scored a goal in consecutive games, also doing so at Kansas on Sept. 30, 2021 and against West Virginia on Oct. 7, 2021.
• In her K-State career, Goins ranks tied for third in school history for career goals (7) and is third in program history for career goals per game (0.20). She also ranks fifth in school history for career points (15).
• In the 2021 season, Goins achieved career season-highs for goals (4), points (8), shots (35) and shots on goal (13) in her second season with K-State in 2021.
• Goins recorded four goals and eight points in 18 matches played in the 2021 season. She ranked second on the team for goals, shots (35) and shots on goal (13).
• The product of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, led the Wildcats in goals (3) and points (6) in Big 12-only matches. She scored three of K-State’s six goals in league action. Goins is the second player in program history to register five or more points in Big 12 play.
• Goins scored the game-tying goal against ninth-ranked West Virginia on October 7 with a rocket shot from 20 yards into the upper right corner in the 18th minute. This was just the third game-tying goal in program history and the first in the six-year history of Buser Family Park.
Anderson Reaches Season-High
• Sophomore midfielder Adah Anderson has wasted no time in 2022 in surpassing her point production from her freshman season in 2021.
• The product of Kansas City, Missouri, registered a goal and an assist for three points in the two opening weekend matches.
• Against Northwestern on Aug. 18, Anderson assisted on freshman Sophie Harlan’s goal in the sixth minute.
• Against Northern Colorado on Aug. 21, Anderson notched a goal in the 52nd minute on an assist from Harlan.
• At UTRGV on Aug. 25, Anderson assisted on the game-winning goal by Kyler Goins in the 52nd minute.
• With her four points, Anderson recorded at least one point in the first 3 matches of the season. This was the longest point streak by a Wildcat since Brookelynn Entz tallied a point in three straight matches from Oct. 3 to Oct. 18 of 2019.
• Along with being tied for the early team lead in 2022 for points, Anderson leads the Wildcats in assists (2) and shots on goal (5).
• In her career, Anderson owns two goals and three assists for seven points in 22 career matches. Anderson is tied for seventh in school history for career assists.
Thornhill Adds Name to Assist List
• Caylee Thornhill collected her first helper of the 2022 season during K-State’s match at UTSA on Aug. 28.
• Thornhill was credited with the assist on Kyler Goins’ 58th minute goal against the Roadrunners.
• The assist was the third of Thornhill’s career, moving her into a tie for seventh for career assists at K-State.
• This season, the product of Lenexa, Kansas, leads the Wildcats with 14 total shots and is second in shots on goal (4).
• In the 2021 season, Thornhill made her first start of the 2021 season memorable, as she scored the overtime game-winning goal at Kansas on Sept. 30, 2021.
• Thornhill played a personal season-high of 66 minutes and tallied three shots with one on goal against the Jayhawks. Thornhill scored the game-winner in the 99th minute (98:21). This was the latest goal in school history and the second overtime game-winner in program history.
• After two seasons halted by injury, Thornhill recorded her first two career goals and an assist in 2021 with 18 shots including eight on goal in a career-high 17 matches played.
2022 Roster Items
• K-State and head coach Mike Dibbini will carry 35 players on its 2022 roster.
• The Wildcats feature a program-high 12 seniors (Rachel Harris [redshirt], Rebecca Bartosh, Shannon Dukes, Aliyah El-Naggar, Kyler Goins, Jesse Loren, Bailey Nemechek, Caylee Thornhill, Shae Turner, Kursten von Klahr, Marisa Weichel and Roo Yarnell Williams) and five juniors.
• Overall, K-State returns 22 letter winners and 11 of the 12 point scorers from 2021.
• K-State added 13 newcomers, including 12 freshmen, in the offseason. According to Alex Ryan at Eastern Michigan, K-State is tied for seventh in the nation for number of freshmen on its roster this season. The Wildcats and South Carolina lead Power Five conference members with 12 freshmen each on their rosters.
• K-State has two sets of sisters on its roster: Gillispies (Keila & Kenzi) and Weichels (Maddie & Marisa). According to Lindy Brown at Duke, K-State is one of nine programs in the nation this season to have two or more sets of sisters.
