Former Illinois forward Coleman Hawkins transferring to K-State

With its 13th and final open scholarship, K-State Men’s Basketball lands the top player left in the transfer portal. Former Illinois 6’10” forward Coleman Hawkins committed to K-State on Friday. Choosing to play his final year of college basketball in Manhattan.

Hawkins helped the Illini on a run to the Elite Eight last season. Averaging a career best 12.1 points per game and shot 36.9% from three. He also averaged 6.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.1 blocks per contest. Earning 2nd team All-Big Ten honors. In his four-year career at Illinois, Hawkins became the only player in program history to record 900+ points, 500+ rebounds, 200+ assists, 100+ blocks and 100+ steals.

According to On3, Hawkins was scheduled to visit LSU this weekend, but that has been canceled after his pledge to the ‘Cats.

For many recruiting sites, Hawkins was the best player left in the transfer portal. Overall, he was ranked 2nd in the portal at EvanMiya.com. On3 had Hawkins as the 17th best player in the portal.

Prior to his college career, Hawkins originally signed with Illinois as a three-star recruit and the No. 151 overall player in the country in the class of 2020.

Hawkins joins Dug McDaniel (MIchigan), CJ Jones (UIC), Brendan Hausen (Villanova), Baye Fall (Arkansas), Max Jones (Cal State-Fullerton), Mobi Ikegwuruka (Ellsworth CC), Achor Achor (Samford) and Ugonna Onyenso (Kentucky) as transfers headed to the Little Apple.
