– K-State co-offensive coordinators Dana Dimel and Del Miller both seem pretty comfortable with what they have coming back at quarterback, especially Joe Hubener:

“(Hubener’s) velocity is the best we’ve had on the football in years.” – Dana Dimel

– Del Miller said that Hubener has improved his vertical from 29 to 33 inches since he arrived on campus, and he has also improved his 40-yard dash time from 5.0 seconds to 4.7 seconds.

– As for incoming freshman Alex Delton, both Dimel and Miller said that he will get every chance to compete for the starting job if he’s ready. Dimel added that it could be a situation where Delton still plays some even if he isn’t ready to be the main starter. Dimel definitely expects Delton to be a good one by the time he’s done.

– Both Curry Sexton and Del Miller went out of their way to mention Dominique Heath as a wide receiver to watch out for next season. Heath will be a redshirt freshman next season.

– Miller thinks very highly of Jake Waters’ NFL chances. Miller says some scouts that have come in haven’t been interested in Jake, but others have said “hey, Brees isn’t very tall either.”

– UCLA QB Brett Hundley compared K-State’s defense to Stanford when asked for a comparison. That’s good news because the Cardinal just handcuffed the UCLA offense in a 31-10 win on November 28th.

Notes from day one’s press conferences for both the K-State and UCLA defenses:

– Defensive Coordinator Tom Hayes says K-State will start Nate Jackson at safety for the injured Dylan Schellenberg. The Cats lost Schellenberg during the regular season finale at Baylor. True freshman Kaleb Prewett was also believed to be fighting with Jackson for the starting spot.

– After injured safety Travis Green tweeted yesterday that he would be transferring, Dante Barnett and Randall Evans reacted to the news:

“I didn’t really know much about it. That’s tough because we’ve built a bond and a friendship there, so any time you lose a friend that you go out there with that’s tough. He made sure his presence was made. He made some great plays for our defense.” – Dante Barnett

“I sat next to him in the locker room so you know we talked a lot. He told me how he was feeling about it, but I didn’t know he was going to make that decision. We can’t make that decision for him. I want him to make the best decision that he feels is right for him. If he feels that’s right for him then that’s great.” – Randall Evans

– UCLA defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich came up with perhaps the most creative way yet to describe how tough it is to defend Tyler Lockett:

“He’s a pain the ass now. It’s funny because you watch tape, there’s times where you know he’s getting the ball. You think opposing defenses are aware of that as well. He finds a way to make the play.”

depth chart of the season is that none of the four JUCO transfers

who arrived for fall camp (D’Vonta Derricott, Terrell Clinkscales,

A.J. Allen and Isaiah Riddle) are on the depth chart. Clinkscales

apparently is behind six other defensive tackles that are listed.

Snyder did say it’s likely that some of those guys will get on the

field during the game Saturday.

• Two of the three Blue Springs (MO) freshmen are second-string

on the depth chart in safety Kaleb Prewett and linebacker Elijah

Lee. Running back Dalvin Warmack isn’t and Coach Snyder said as

of right now he will “probably” redshirt.

• One surprise is sophomore defensive end Jordan Willis starting

at defensive end. Marquel Bryant was the assumed incumbent at

the defensive end spot opposite of Ryan Mueller.

• Also Joe Hubener beat out Jesse Ertz for the backup quarterback

role. Hubener is also now on scholarship according to Snyder.

• The right side of the offensive line right now remains Drew Liddle

at guard and Matt Kleinsorge at tackle. The backups are Luke

Hayes and Aaron Bennett.

• Charles Jones is listed as the starter at running back, but Snyder

said that it’s still subject to change in the next few days.

• Finally, Morgan Burns and Danzel McDaniel won the starting

cornerback spots with Cre Moore and Nate Jackson behind them.
