Tang Signs Transfer Brendan Hausen

MANHATTAN, Kan. (K-State Athletics) – Kansas State head coach Jerome Tang added another piece to his roster for the 2024-25 season with the signing of transfer guard Brendan Hausen(Amarillo, Texas/Amarillo/Villanova) to a Financial Aid Agreement on Friday evening (April 26).

A 6-foot-4, 205-pound guard originally from Amarillo, Texas, Hausen arrives at K-State after 2 seasons (2022-24) at Villanova, where he developed into one of the top 3-point shooters in the BIG EAST. He totaled 88 3-point field goals in his 66-game stint, averaging 1.3 makes per game, while connecting on 39.5 percent from beyond the arc. This past season, he led the Wildcats in both 3-point field goals (61) and 3-point field goal percentage (38.1) while coming off the bench in all 34 games and averaging 17.7 minutes per game.

In his 2 seasons at Villanova, Hausen averaged 4.7 points on 40.7 percent shooting (100-of-246), including 39.5 percent (61-of-160) from 3-point range, and 85.2 percent (23-of-27) from the free throw line in 13.4 minutes per game while playing in 66 of a possible 68 games for head coach Kyle Neptune. He helped the Wildcats win 35 games, including 20 in BIG EAST action, the past 2 seasons with back-to-back appearances in the NIT.

“It’s another great day to be a Wildcat as we welcome an elite shooter in Brendan Hausen and his family to K-State,” said Tang. “But he is more than just a shooter; he is a weapon. We are excited about the growth that he can make as a complete basketball player once he gets around our staff. The fan base is really going to enjoy him, and his family and we know they are going to embrace and welcome them to this community.”

Hausen doubled his scoring production in 2023-24, averaging 6.2 points on 39.2 percent (69-of-176) shooting, including 38.1 percent (61-of-160) from beyond the arc, and 86.7 percent (13-of-15) from the free throw line in playing all 34 games. He scored in double figures 9 times, including a career-high 18 points vs. Le Moyne on Nov. 10, 2023, in which, he connected on 6-of-8 shots from 3-point range. He made 2 or more 3-pointers in 17 games and finished 13^th in the BIG EAST with 1.79 3-point field goal makes/game.

Hausen played 6 minutes in Villanova’s 72-71 overtime loss to K-State at Bramlage Coliseum on Dec. 5, going 0-of-2 from the field with an assist.

Hausen is the fourth player to sign with the Wildcats for the 2024-25 season, including the third Division I transfer following Dug McDaniel(Washington, D.C./St. Paul VI Catholic VI/Michigan) and Christian (C.J.) Jones(East St. Louis, Ill./East St. Louis/UIC). The trio join top-50 high school prospect David Castillo(Bartlesville, Okla./Sunrise Christian Academy [Kan.]), who signed on Nov. 8.

As a true freshman in 2022-23, Hausen played in 32 games, averaging 3.1 points on 44.3 percent (31-of-70) shooting, including 42.9 percent (27-of-63) from 3-point range in 8.9 minutes per game. He scored in double figures 3 times, including a season-best 15 points against Oregon on Nov. 27, 2022. He went 5-of-9 from the field against the Ducks, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range, in 21 minutes.

Dubbed the ‘Amarillo Assassin’ for his exploits in becoming of the top shooting guards in the Class of 2022 at Amarillo High School in Amarillo, Texas, Hausen finished his career as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,208 points. He led the Sandies to a 31-7 overall record as a senior, averaging 18 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, and was named the 2021-22 Boys Athlete of the Year in the Texas Panhandle. He scored a season-high 30 points in the Sandies’ 71-41 win over Palo Duro on Jan. 26, 2022.

K-State finished the 2023-24 season with a 19-15 record, including a tie for ninth in the Big 12 with an 8-10 mark, and advanced to the NIT. Among the Wildcats’ 19 victories were 4 over Top 25 teams, including 3 in the Top 10. The team has won 45 games in head coach Jerome Tang‘s tenure, including consecutive postseason appearances.

TCU Blanks K-State in Series Opener Friday

FORT WORTH, Texas (K-State Athletics) – Thirteen strikeouts from the TCU pitching staff spearheaded the Horned Frogs to a 12-0 victory in the series opener at Lupton Stadium Friday night.

K-State (25-16, 9-10 Big 12) allowed runs in four of the first five innings, including four in the second and third. The Horned Frogs (25-15, 9-13 Big 12) used 17 hits to score 12 runs to back right-handed starter Payton Tolle.

The Wichita State transfer held the Wildcats to three hits in his five innings to pick up his fifth victory with TCU (5-4). Tolle, a right-hander from Yukon, Okla., finished the game with seven strikeouts and issued four walks.

“Difficult to play from behind versus a premiere arm,” said head coach Pete Hughes. “I have confidence in our team and how we’ll respond.”

K-State starting pitcher Ty Ruhl (1-2) suffered the loss after surrendering five runs, all earned, on four hits in his one inning.

Jacob Frost logged 3 1/3 innings in relief, allowing one unearned run on three hits with three strikeouts. Relievers Cole Wisenbaker and Preston Martinez each turned in a scoreless inning for the Cats.

Four different Wildcats generated a hit led by Kaelen Culpepper, who finished the night 2-for-4 with a walk, while the Frogs issued eight walks to K-State.

THE RUNDOWN
TCU took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame, until the Horned Frogs exploded for four runs in the second led off by a solo shot to right field by Luke Boyers in the second inning.

The Frogs used four hits in the third to tag on four runs to their lead, 9-0.

Tolle took a one-hitter into the fourth inning until Jayden Lobliner punched the first pitch through the left side and advanced to second on a two-out single from Jaden Parsons.

Andrew Mosiello relieved Tolle in the sixth inning and struck out two in his first inning. The righty finished with six strikeouts and scattered two hits to Culpepper and Danniel Rivera.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

K-State generated four hits with two errors committed and stranded 12 men on base.
TCU scored 12 runs on 17 hits, committed one error, and left 11 runners on base.
Three Wildcats hit in the nightcap, led by Culpepper going 2-for-4 with a walk.
Wisenbaker and Martinez each turned in a shutout inning in relief.
Ruhl suffered the loss, allowing five runs, all earned, on four hits with two walks (1-2).
TCU’s Tolle (5-3) picked up the victory, scattering three hits with seven strikeouts in his five shutout innings.
Frost logged 3 1/3 innings with one unearned run on three hits with three strikeouts.
K-State was 3-for-15 (.200) with runners on base and 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position, while TCU hit .357 (10-for-28) with men on base and was 6-for-19 (.545) in scoring position.
The Cats hit .250 (3-for-12) with two outs and TCU hit .222 (2-for-9) with two outs, including three two-out RBI.

NOTES

TCU leads the all-time series 31-13, including a 22-9 record in Big 12 action.
K-State is 3-18 in games played in Fort Worth.
The Wildcats 6-12 against the Frogs in the Hughes era.
On the road, K-State is 9-11 and 7-10 in true road games and 4-6 record in Big 12 action.
The shutout marks the second time this season K-State was shut out (April 16 at UConn, 4-0).
