ST. Joseph, Mo. — After the No. 13 Kansas State women beat Middle Tennessee State 74-48 after a second-half blitz by the Wildcats on Saturday, Middle Tennessee head coach Rick Insell, a women’s basketball hall-of-famer, said he thinks K-State is one of the top squads in the country and that the Wildcats have a chance to go far in the NCAA Tournament.

“I’ve said this all along, and I’ve been doing this for 50 years: It’s not necessarily the best team that wins the national championship,” Insell said. “It’s the team that’s playing the best in that period of time. If Kansas State can put together a six-to-eight-game series there where they’re running their offense, playing their defense, switching it up, they’ve got a chance.”

Saturday was an offensive rejuvenation for Kansas State in almost every phase of Kansas State’s 41-15 win over Cincinnati.

In a sport like football where there are so many moving pieces at any one time, it’s impossible to say that only one decision made the difference between the Wildcats flailing on offense like they’ve done for the past month or soaring like they did Saturday night.

However, a slight coaching change may have been the spark that reignited the Wildcat offense Saturday evening.
