ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Brandie Harrod made two baskets on Sunday — one to open the game, and the other to deliver Kansas State women’s basketball a 61-60 upset of No. 13 Ole Miss.
The freshman missed the five other shots she attempted and acknowledged afterward that most of her 28 minutes were a struggle. Nevertheless, Harrod had the ball in her hands when the Wildcats needed someone to make a play.
“I’m not sure she makes that early in the game,” head coach Jeff Mittie said. “I don’t think she was playing that tough. She kind of willed her way to that basket.”
Moments earlier, the Rebels (8-1) had reclaimed a 60-59 edge with 16 seconds remaining. As time ticked down, Gina Garcia dribbled left off a ball screen and dumped an entry pass to Harrod, who faced the stout defense of Ole Miss post Christeen Iwuala.
