K-State Comes Up Shy Against Oklahoma State
MANHATTAN, Kansas (Kansas State Athletics) – A fifth minute goal proved to be the difference on Sunday afternoon at Buser Family Park, as Oklahoma State improved its winning streak to six straight with a 1-0 win. K-State falls to 4-5-2, 0-1-1, while the Cowgirls improve to 9-1-1, 2-0-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
– In the fifth minute, Oklahoma State went up 1-0. Olyvia Dowell carried possession to the touch line on the left side of the frame. Just before crossing the line, she centered a pass to Gracie Bindbeutel who finished into the top of the net.
– K-State had a chance to square things late in the first half. Freshman Ally Brown slotted a pass to freshman Sophie Harlan with 30 seconds to play. Harlan sent a rolling shot towards the Oklahoma State net. Cowgirls keeper Jordan Nytes chose to let the ball roll past her and it just missed hitting the right post.
– Neither team generated solid chances in the second half.
– The Wildcats nearly found the equalizing goal in the final 30 seconds. A Kursten von Klahr corner kick found Marisa Weichel at the far left post. Weichel gathered her balance and attempted a shot that went over the crossbar.
– For the afternoon, Oklahoma State held a 10-5 advantage in total shots and a 5-0 lead in shots on goal.

On the first ten minutes of the game…
“I think overall if we look back at the Iowa State match we had to have a better start. We had to figure out a way from a mentality standpoint to have better starts and not get back on our heels a little bit. I will say we dodged some bullets. We did it again today and they punished us. So can we figure that out, or sort that out? We can and I think this team will do something special this year.”
On the offensive performance…
“We created some chances and we even had a shot off at the very end. So it shows we are creating chances , we’re having opportunities, which is something that we haven’t done in this program before. We are going toe to toe with teams, so we’re moving forward in the right direction. We just didn’t get the result today, and we could learn a lot from this game.”
On how OSU challenged them offensively and defensively…
“They’re experienced. They have an experienced group there and they know how to win tight games in key moments. They punished us in that one moment, and then they were organized the rest of the game.”
On Khaliana Garrett getting minutes…
“It was really nice to get Khaliana some minutes, just for the fact that she hasn’t played. We lost a key player that didn;t play today so that was a bright spot for us. Overall, I think everybody did what they needed to do to contribute and compete. We just didn’t get the result or at least the point.”
