K-State WBB Receives Special Mention on WBCA Academic Honor Roll

MANHATTAN, Kansas (Kansas State Athletics) – K-State women’s basketball was successful in the classroom as well as the court during the 2021-22 season, as the Wildcats received Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Honor Roll Special Mention for its team grade point average last season. Of the three Big 12 programs to be included, K-State led all Big 12 programs with its team GPA.

Under the direction of head coach Jeff Mittie, K-State women’s basketball completed the 2021-22 academic year with a team grade point average of 3.357. K-State was one of 31 teams on the WBCA Academic Honor Roll and Special Mention list to play in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

During the 2021-22 season, K-State received six Academic All-Big 12 honors, two Big 12 Academic All-Rookie recipients, a CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team citation and a CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honoree.

In Mittie’s eight seasons at K-State, the Wildcats have collected 44 Academic All-Big 12 citations, five Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipients, 12 Big 12 Academic All-Rookie Team honorees, eight CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees, four CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and one Senior CLASS Award finalist.

For the 2022-23 season, Kansas State returns seven letter winners including all five starters from last season. The Wildcats will be led by All-American center Ayoka Lee and the sophomore trio of Brylee GlennJaelyn Glenn and Serena Sundell.

The seven¬ returning letter winners were responsible for 87 percent of K-State’s scoring, 77 percent of the team’s assists and 72 percent of the team’s rebounding in the 2021-22 season. The Wildcats will also welcome in senior Gabby Gregory, redshirt sophomore Heavenly Greer, sophomore Gisela Sanchez and freshmen Mimi Gatewood, Ja’Mia Harris, Eliza Maupin and Mikayla Parks.
